„Projekt Zeitbrücke" – 100 Years of History as a Digital Adventure
How Exitmania developed an immersive outdoor escape game for the Tourismus-Zentrale Sankt Peter-Ording in time for the Easter season kick-off.
History without the "museum dust"
The anniversary year "100 Years of the Pier" in Sankt Peter-Ording was to become a real highlight for guests. Alexandra Jensen (Deputy Head of Events and Experiences at the Tourist Centre) was looking for a creative way to convey the historical significance of the pier in a modern, playful way.
An experience that works equally well for families with children and for adults.
Engaging entertainment for up to 2 hours – no waiting, no guide required.
Only one month from first draft to go-live at Easter – for development, storytelling and testing.
Very little static infrastructure on-site that could serve as puzzle anchors – creative solutions needed.
Physical anchors in the game world
Ten individually designed station signs serve as the physical interface – compelling players to engage with historical facts and graphics in order to progress in the app.

Creative anchor points & smart ticket flow
Since the environment alone was not sufficient to support complex puzzles, we developed the decisive idea: ten individually designed station signs. The team at the tourist centre was immediately enthusiastic about this approach.
- Ten individually designed station signs as physical game anchors
- Direct ticket purchase integrated into the St. Peter-Ording experience shop
- Spontaneous entry via QR code on the sign – no app download required
- Individual app with historical info, puzzles and digital memento
- Exclusive AR filter as a souvenir at the end of the game
QR Code Entry
Whoever spontaneously stands in front of one of the signs simply scans the QR code. This leads directly to the shop and enables the start of the game within seconds.
Individual App
An interface that informs and entertains – including a digital souvenir at the end that players can take home as a memory using a special AR filter.
Seamless Shop Integration
Tickets are seamlessly integrated into the St. Peter-Ording online shop – full control over sales and pricing remains with the tourist centre.
Inside the app
An interface designed to inform and entertain – responsive, no download, works on any smartphone.
The memory that stays
At the end of the game, players receive access to an exclusive AR filter. It serves as a digital frame when taking photos – a personalised souvenir that creates a lasting connection between the players and the location.
This creates a unique touchpoint for social media that promotes the destination organically – without any additional marketing budget.
Partnership at eye level
Within one tight month, we worked in an agile setup – every wish implemented, every step communicated.
Kick-off & Concept
Joint video calls to define goals, target group, storyline and the concept of the station signs.
Build & Test
Weekly video calls ensured the client was involved in every step. From the first idea to the final test phase – we incorporated every request.
Launch & Long-term Support
On time for the Easter season start. We remain on board for the full two-year duration of the installation – players can reach us live in the game at any time.
"Working with Exitmania and especially with Dervis was collaborative, creative and solution-oriented from the very beginning. From the very first moment I had the feeling of being truly part of a creative team. My ideas were taken seriously and complemented with an incredible wealth of experience. Seeing how a living escape game came to life that perfectly suits the anniversary year and yet looks ahead to the future was very inspiring."
