Due to World War I, construction came to a standstill between 1914 and 1918. Then, in 1924, work resumed, but with an altered design by Scott. This change was due to costs and a modern adaptation. Construction was again interrupted by World War II from 1939 to 1945. It was not until 1978 that Queen Elizabeth II was able to attend the consecration of the cathedral. </p> <p> In the cathedral, you can see the world's highest and heaviest bells, which bear the names of the first bishops of Liverpool.
